Add Math Tuition Cost in Malaysia: What You Should Pay

Parents comparing Add Math tuition prices in Malaysia meet quotes from RM30 to RM200+ per hour, usually with no explanation of the gap. Here is the honest market map, including where our own pricing sits and why.
The market, mapped
| Format | Typical price | What you’re buying |
|---|---|---|
| Group tuition centre (6–15 students) | RM150–300/month (≈RM30–60/hr) | Scheduled coverage of the syllabus; little individual working-level feedback |
| University student / fresh grad, 1-to-1 | RM30–50/hr | Content help; usually no 0606 mark-scheme or exam-technique depth |
| Experienced 0606 specialist, online 1-to-1 | RM70–150/hr | Personal teaching + written working marked against real mark schemes |
| Experienced specialist, in-person (KL/PJ) | RM100–200+/hr | Same, plus travel premium baked in |
Two structural notes. First, IGCSE tuition prices in Malaysia run above SPM prices for the same subject, the pool of tutors who genuinely know Cambridge mark schemes is small. Second, in-person premiums buy commute, not pedagogy: for a written-working subject, a proper online setup delivers the same teaching.
Why the cheap option is often the expensive one
Add Math grades are decided less by understanding than by execution, method marks, command words, non-calculator fluency. A tutor who explains concepts clearly but never marks your child’s written scripts leaves exactly those marks on the table. Families routinely spend 18 months at RM200/month in a group centre (RM3,600), see a C hold steady, then switch to a specialist for the final six months. The cheaper arithmetic was the dearer path. Our tutor-choosing checklist covers how to test for this before paying.
The real question: cost per grade, not cost per hour
A useful frame: estimate the total spend to target grade. A focused 1-to-1 programme at RM80/hr × 1.5 hr/week × 9 months ≈ RM4,300 with a high probability of an A/A* outcome for a committed B-grade student. A grades-static group class at RM250/month for the same period is RM2,250, cheaper, until you add the resit, the lost A Level placement, or the last-minute intensive rescue at premium rates. Price the outcome, not the hour.
Our pricing, stated plainly
We charge RM80 per hour, in 1.5-hour classes (RM120 per class). 1-to-1, online anywhere in Malaysia, taught by Teacher Rig (8 years IGCSE/Add Math) or one of his handpicked Add Math specialists. That sits deliberately in the middle of the specialist band: it’s not the cheapest hour on the market, and it isn’t padded with registration fees, materials charges or lock-in terms. There is one price and a free 1-hour trial before it, full details on the pricing page.
Questions to ask any provider about price
- Is there a registration, deposit or materials fee on top of the rate?
- What exactly happens in a paid hour, teaching, or supervised worksheets?
- Is written homework marked against real 0606 mark schemes between classes?
- What’s the cancellation/make-up policy?
- Can my child be taught once, free, before we commit?
Any provider confident in their teaching answers all five happily. Ours: no extra fees; taught 1-to-1 with working marked live; yes, marked between classes; flexible make-ups; and yes, there is a genuinely free trial first. Message us on WhatsApp to book it.
