Parents comparing Add Math tuition prices in Malaysia meet quotes from RM30 to RM200+ per hour, usually with no explanation of the gap. Here is the honest market map, including where our own pricing sits and why.

The market, mapped

FormatTypical priceWhat you’re buying
Group tuition centre (6–15 students)RM150–300/month (≈RM30–60/hr)Scheduled coverage of the syllabus; little individual working-level feedback
University student / fresh grad, 1-to-1RM30–50/hrContent help; usually no 0606 mark-scheme or exam-technique depth
Experienced 0606 specialist, online 1-to-1RM70–150/hrPersonal teaching + written working marked against real mark schemes
Experienced specialist, in-person (KL/PJ)RM100–200+/hrSame, plus travel premium baked in

Two structural notes. First, IGCSE tuition prices in Malaysia run above SPM prices for the same subject, the pool of tutors who genuinely know Cambridge mark schemes is small. Second, in-person premiums buy commute, not pedagogy: for a written-working subject, a proper online setup delivers the same teaching.

Why the cheap option is often the expensive one

Add Math grades are decided less by understanding than by execution, method marks, command words, non-calculator fluency. A tutor who explains concepts clearly but never marks your child’s written scripts leaves exactly those marks on the table, which is the real case for 1-to-1 over group classes in this subject. Families routinely spend 18 months at RM200/month in a group centre (RM3,600), see a C hold steady, then switch to a specialist for the final six months. The cheaper arithmetic was the dearer path. Our tutor-choosing checklist covers how to test for this before paying.

The real question: cost per grade, not cost per hour

A useful frame: estimate the total spend to target grade. A focused 1-to-1 programme at RM80–90/hr × 1.5 hr/week × 9 months (about 36 teaching weeks) ≈ RM4,300–4,900, aimed squarely at an A/A* outcome for a committed B-grade student. A grades-static group class at RM250/month for the same period is RM2,250, cheaper, until you add the resit, the lost A Level placement, or the last-minute intensive rescue at premium rates. Price the outcome, not the hour.

Our pricing, stated plainly

We charge RM80–90 per hour, in 1.5-hour classes (RM120–135 per class). 1-to-1, online anywhere in Malaysia, taught by a 0606 specialist tutor, personally vetted by our founder. Where you sit in that band depends on how long your assigned tutor has taught the 0606 syllabus: newer specialists are RM80/hr, our longest-serving tutors are RM90/hr. The whole band sits deliberately in the middle of the specialist market: it’s not the cheapest hour available, and it isn’t padded with registration fees, materials charges or lock-in terms. You are told the rate up front, and every student starts with a single 1-hour trial class at that same rate before any weekly slot is agreed, full details on the pricing page.

Questions to ask any provider about price

  1. Is there a registration, deposit or materials fee on top of the rate?
  2. What exactly happens in a paid hour, teaching, or supervised worksheets?
  3. Is written homework marked against real 0606 mark schemes between classes?
  4. What’s the cancellation/make-up policy?
  5. Can my child be taught once, as a single class, before we commit to a term?

Any provider confident in their teaching answers all five happily. Ours: no extra fees; taught 1-to-1 with working marked live; yes, marked between classes; flexible make-ups; and yes, every student starts with a single 1-hour trial class, charged at the ordinary hourly rate with no package or deposit attached. Book the trial class — it’s one WhatsApp message.

Common questions

How much does IGCSE Add Math tuition cost per hour in Malaysia?
Typical ranges: group tuition centres RM30–60 per hour equivalent; private 1-to-1 with an experienced specialist RM70–150 per hour online, and RM100–200+ in-person in KL. University students charge RM30–50 but rarely know the 0606 exam layer.
Is group or 1-to-1 tuition better for Add Math?
For a method-heavy subject where the value is in having your written working corrected, 1-to-1 moves grades faster per hour. Group classes suit students who are already solid and need volume practice with light guidance.
Why do IGCSE tutors cost more than SPM tutors?
Smaller supply of tutors who genuinely know Cambridge syllabuses and mark schemes, and most IGCSE families are at international schools where tutors price accordingly. Paying IGCSE rates for a tutor who only knows SPM Add Maths is the worst of both.
