The final week is where students most often sabotage themselves, by cramming. The instinct is to do more; the right move is to do less, but sharper. By now the learning is done, and the last seven days are for consolidating, keeping formulas fresh, and arriving calm. Panic-cramming a new topic this late usually costs more (in fatigue and confidence) than it gains.

Stop learning, start sharpening

Resist the urge to open a major topic you never mastered, this late, it rarely sticks and drains energy from securing what you do know. Instead, sharpen:

Taper the volume

Do less than in previous weeks, but more deliberately. Short, focused sessions beat exhausting full-paper marathons now. One or two lighter timed sections to keep the exam rhythm, plus targeted review, is plenty. The aim is to arrive rested and confident, not depleted, a tired brain makes exactly the careless slips that cost marks.

Manage the nerves

A calm student outperforms an anxious one of equal ability. If nerves are building, the exam-stress guide helps; the short version is that light preparation, sleep, and routine beat frantic cramming. Confidence this week comes from remembering how much you already know, not from cramming more.

The last 48 hours

Wind down further. Confirm the practical details, exam time, what to bring, which calculator for Paper 2. The night before has its own short plan: see what to do the night before the exam. Prioritise sleep over one more past paper, it’s the better investment by the final night.

The final week rewards discipline of a different kind: the discipline to do less. A specialist can help a student arrive sharp rather than frazzled, message us on WhatsApp if the final stretch would benefit from a steady hand, starting with a trial class.

Common questions

Should I cram new topics in the last week?
No. Cramming a major new topic in the final week rarely sticks and eats time better spent sharpening what you already know. If a small gap remains, a quick targeted look is fine, but the last week is for consolidation, formula recall and light timed practice, not first contact with big topics. Confidence and freshness matter more now than coverage.
How much should I study in the last week?
Less than the previous weeks, but more deliberately. Taper the volume so you arrive rested, not depleted. Short, focused sessions, formula recall, error-log review, a few targeted questions, beat marathon days. Sleep and calm are part of the preparation, especially the night before.
