Turn your 0606 expertise into steady evening income, without finding a single student yourself

A part-time place on our online tutor bench: a handful of weekly 1-to-1 Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics students, matched to you, taught from home around the work you already do.

Who this role is for

Most of the strongest 0606 teaching in Malaysia happens in school classrooms, and most of the teachers who do it have more to give than a timetable allows. This role is built for them, and for anyone else who knows the Cambridge Additional Mathematics paper well and wants to teach it properly to one student at a time.

Typical applicants are secondary maths teachers at international or private schools who want a few evening students, experienced private tutors who want a steadier flow of 0606 work without marketing themselves, and graduates with strong mathematics backgrounds who can explain the syllabus clearly. What they share is not a job title. It is the ability to show a student why a line of working earns a mark and the next line does not.

What the work actually looks like

You teach assigned students in fixed weekly slots, 1-to-1 on video with a shared whiteboard. Classes run 1.5 hours. In each one you correct the student's working live, teach the next piece of the syllabus or the exam technique they are missing, and set focused work for the week. Between classes you mark what they send in, so the next lesson starts from evidence rather than guesswork.

Families mostly want evenings after school and weekend slots, which is why part-time tutors are the backbone of the bench. You tell us the hours you can commit, and we only match you with students whose schedule fits. You will not be asked to take on more than you offered.

In the months before an exam session the focus shifts. Students move onto timed past papers, and your job becomes reading their scripts the way an examiner would: where the method marks went, where an answer was right but unsupported, where a non-calculator Paper 1 question needed an exact value and got a decimal.

Why part-time tutors stay

You never chase families. Parents enquire with us, we talk through what their child needs, and we match the student to the tutor on the bench who fits their year, level and goal. You meet the student in a 1-hour trial class, and that trial hour is paid at your normal rate, like every class after it.

You are not inventing a method alone. Every tutor is briefed on one shared approach built around how the 0606 mark scheme awards marks, so a student who needs extra help gets consistent teaching, and you spend your preparation time on the student rather than on building a course from scratch.

You teach one subject. Our bench covers Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606 and nothing else, so everything you prepare, every past paper you know and every common error you spot, keeps paying off week after week.

Pay, honestly stated

From RM80/hr, subject to experience and availability. The rate rises with how long the assigned tutor has taught the 0606 syllabus, so experience on this specific paper is rewarded directly. We ask for your expected hourly rate in the application because we would rather agree a fair figure at the start than renegotiate later.

There are no unpaid demo lessons. The trial class is the first paid hour of the relationship, and it is charged at your rate.

How selection works

Applications come in by WhatsApp. If your experience fits, our founder, Rig, invites you to two short steps. First, a mark-scheme check: real 0606 questions, marked the way Cambridge marks them, to see that you know where M, A and B marks sit. Second, an observed teaching session, because a strong mathematician who cannot teach to the standard does not join the bench.

Tutors who pass are briefed on the method and on how we run trial classes, progress updates and rematching. Then we start matching students to you at the hours you offered.

A realistic first term

Your first student usually arrives through a trial class: one paid hour where you teach real 0606 content, look at the student's working and give the family a straight read on where marks are being lost. If the family books a weekly slot, that student stays with you.

From there, the work settles into a rhythm. Each week you build on last week's errors, keep a short record of what changed, and send the parent a brief update. Part-time tutors who keep their offered hours steady are the ones families rebook term after term.

Qualifications we look for

  • Genuine fluency in the Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606 syllabus, across all 14 topics and both papers.
  • Mark-scheme fluency: you know where method (M), accuracy (A) and independent (B) marks are earned, and you teach students to write working that collects them.
  • Confident teaching for the non-calculator Paper 1, including exact values and surd and index work that 0606 treats as assumed knowledge.
  • Clear, patient explanation for one student at a time, on video with a shared whiteboard.
  • A stable internet connection, a quiet space, and a way to write working live (a tablet with stylus or a graphics tablet).
  • Willingness to be observed teaching by our founder and to teach our shared, exam-focused method.
